Your Flight Training Journey

Pilot training can take many routes, but the typical order of flight training at Aspen Flight Academy is detailed below in our guide to becoming a career pilot. From Private Pilot to Commercial Pilot, your flying journey encompasses everything you need to become a safe, skilled and competent professional aviator.

Take A Discovery Flight

Experience the thrill of flying for the first time with a Discovery Flight. A hands-on lesson with a certified instructor will allow you to comfortably and safely determine if aviation is your next hobby, passion or career.

Private Pilot

Earn your wings and fly day or night for personal and incidental-to-business travel. Master the fundamentals of flight, navigation and safety while receiving expert instruction from our experienced flight instructors.

Instrument Rating

Fly confidently in low-visibility conditions with reference only to cockpit instruments. This rating expands your skills, making you a safer and more capable pilot, while qualifying you to fly in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) and under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).

Commercial Pilot

Turn your passion into a profession and earn your Commercial Pilot Certificate. Develop advanced flying skills and qualify for paid flying opportunities, or use the Commercial Pilot Certificate to increase your skills and become a safer pilot.

Mountain Flying

Flying at high altitudes brings a whole new set of challenges for any pilot. With a (starting) elevation of 7,838′ above sea level, Aspen Flight Academy offers courses tailored to teaching you safe mountain flight.
